A Milestone Day

This photo marked a landmark day recently – I chaperoned my 7-year old daughter’s school trip.

This was a milestone because it epitomizes this next chapter, where my values of family, autonomy/control of my time, and being present are in alignment with my work.

For many years, my mindset included statements like, “I can’t chaperone a school trip,” “I don’t have the time or flexibility to volunteer at my kids’ school,” and “I won’t be able to get my kids involved in after-school activities” because of the demands of my job.

These types of thoughts are called limiting beliefs. These are false assumptions or beliefs that prevent us from pursuing our goals and desires. They keep us playing safe instead of dreaming big, and they often lead to inaction instead of action. Coaching can help break down limiting beliefs to instead insert new empowering thoughts and mindsets. Coaching can also help clarify one’s values, purpose, and passions, in leadership and life.

What would your ideal life look like if there were no limits, and your values, purpose, and passions were in alignment?

PS. When I asked my daughter what the best part of the trip was, she immediately said, “Seeing you there.” She now participates regularly in gymnastics and swimming. She’s thriving and I am able to be present, mentally and physically, while still having a career and practicing medicine on my terms. This has been a difficult year of transformation, but these moments are priceless.
